Stir Up Sunday takes place on the last Sunday before the start of Advent
In 2020 Stir Up Sunday is on 22 November.
The tradition dates back to Victorian times when the family would gather five weeks before Christmas to stir the Christmas pudding.
The opening words of the Book Of Common Prayer, used on the last Sunday before Advent, read ‘Stir up, we beseech thee, O Lord, the wills of thy faithful people’.
By making your pudding ahead of time you will save a lot of hassle closer to Christmas and produce a tastier pudding too.
The Christmas pudding recipe is centuries old and sometimes referred to as figgy pudding or plum pudding.
Why not uphold the tradition of everyone in the family taking their turn to mix the raw ingredients while making a wish?
